Getting out of a holiday slump

Hello, my fellow musician. How are you doing?

I’m self-isolating at the moment after my travels from Czechia and to be completely honest, trying to get out of a bit of a slump. It was so nice to see my family over the holidays and I seriously must have a guardian angel planning my travels because I made it both ways just before some tougher restrictions came in place.

BEING OK WITH BEING “LAZY”

I consciously decided that I was going to take a break from training. I kept doing a bit of yoga and some walks but other than that, I allowed myself to be utterly lazy. There was lots of movie watching, playing with my little nephew, eating, and just plain old lounging. :)

A-Day-Out.

Now that all is fine and actually useful to do from time to time. The thing is though if you do that sort of thing for a while, a certain kind of inertia sets in and it gets harder and harder to start being productive again. January’s normally the time when you feel motivated (New Year’s resolutions and all) but this year seems different. Maybe because we’re all so fatigued by lockdowns and restrictions by now.

HOW TO GET OUT OF A SLUMP

So what’s the solution? Ask for help! In my case, I have a personal trainer (no going lazy with them) and I booked a bunch of online yoga classes. On-demand videos are great, don’t get me wrong but sometimes you need a bit of an accountability buddy/teacher to motivate you.

I encourage you to do the same. If you have the means, invest in yourself and maybe you can even support an independent teacher in the process. And I don’t mean myself necessarily.
